January 2013 Endless Ink Tattoo in Urban Ink Magazine

Endless Ink's own artist Jeremiah Heller is featured in the article inside Urban Ink's January 2013 edition. The article outlines the story of how Jeremaih has tattooed Reda Dillingham.

We were first introduced to Reda Dillingham through her feature in Urban Ink #22. Reda had just endured an intense battle with breast cancer, of which she got the upper hand. Looking for an artistic and creative way to cover up the battle scars from her double mastectomy, Reda chose to go with body art.

In my search for an artist or shop to complete my piece, I wanted more than free tattoos for the month of October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month). At Endless Ink Tattoo (Denver, CO), they also do the free tattoos, but they give the proceeds to breast cancer research to find a cure. They also sell merchandise in the shop for breast cancer awareness.

"Tats for Tatas" is another unique initiative of Ink Nation. The goal is simple. Alexander and Crystal Kennedy want to see more than 1,000 people wearing a pink ribbon tattoo to raise awareness for breast cancer research. They tattoo participants with a pink ribbon tattoo for free but, of course, they kindly request a $25 donation that goes toward breast cancer awareness and research. In the end, that's a small price to pay for high-end body art and the cause that it stands for.

DENVER - It's a month people recognize in many different ways. Some race. Others wear pink. And of course, there's always the tried and true pink ribbon. October is breast cancer awareness month, and it's very significant to people like Dana Lutz.

"It's not pleasant and I don't recommend it," she said.

In the past five years, she has had breast cancer twice.

Lutz wears a lot of pink. Not just in October, but every day of the year. She says she thinks it helps people think about the disease and a possible cure.

"I have a niece and I have a great-niece who's 4 years old," she said. "I don't want them to have to go through that."

So this October, she added some more pink to her life after making it through a very recent bout with breast cancer.

"If we can get someone the help they need and deserve, we'll do whatever it takes to do it," Endless Ink Tattoo co-owner Alexander Kennedy said.Through their Toys for Tats program, offering free tattoos for food, toy and cash donations, the employees of Endless Ink have raised a stockpile of goods to donate. All of the items will be loaded up into a car, which Kennedy bought from a charity, and given away on Christmas Eve. There's one problem: not many people seem to be interested.

"Everybody's doing some charitable giving right now, so some things get overlooked. And it's OK, but people need help," Kennedy said

The tattoo shop has been working with the Salvation Army and other nonprofits, but they say they haven't gotten much of a response. They're looking to give away the car, toys and food to a needy family in Montbello, the neighborhood that the tattoo shop calls home.
